We meet at the riverside village of Paleopyrgos (at the bridge over the river, just outside the village. This is where our route starts from). Canoeing in the Pinios’s river delta, looks to us that it is our most popular river canoeing route! Probably because it fits nicely in everyone’s likes and taste, for old and young, even very young, families, individuals and large groups! It is a technically mild ride without great promises of adrenaline, yet, it offers amazing nature, relaxation and great sense of tranquility! After all, the arrival at the river’s mouth could be easily described as a rare and very impressive experience that everyone should live through! It does not ask for anything from you, it only gives and it is so plentiful! A great reserve and shelter for a rich bird life, rich vegetation and tree lined riverbanks will lead you through the river’s mouth into the open Aegean sea.

During the summer and autumn months, the river’s delta section is supplied with the water which comes almost entirely from the Tempi valley’s springs. The result of this is an extremely clear blue/green water color, something not very easily expected for a big river. We have a brake while still in our canoes, for hot or cold tea and cookies, allowing the gentle current to take over… A beautiful isolated sandy beach and lots of sea birds welcome us in this special place, where the river meets with the sea! A picnic lunch welcomes us too… Needn’t say that a swim in the sea or in the river or in both is inevitable, even for the most hydrophobic ones, especially during the summer time. After we have finished with the picnic and everything else, you are transferred in our means of transport back to your vehicle for the return.

This is the same route and meeting places as for the rafting in the Tempi Valley but done in a different way and vessels and in a more individual manner. The boats are hard, three-seaters (two adult seats and one child’s) “seat on top” canoes, ideal for this kind of river ride. They are fast, straight liners and comfortable. We enjoy to the out-most the exceptionally beautiful natural environment around us, while we have hot tea and cookies en route, letting the slow current take us gently down-stream. The valley’s huge rock faces on both sides dominate the scenery above our heads, in the most impressive way!

As we come out of the valley the high rocky faces give way to an open space and tree-lined river banks with amazing views of Mt. Kissavos and its summit at close distance and the river gets faster at many parts! The route ends at the old Byzantine bridge, where the picnic awaits us, after a wonderful ride of 2.00’ to 2.30’ hours. By our means of transport, you are taken back to your cars for the return.
