Easter adventure

Easter adventure

Families / Adult groups – Easter – 6 days / 5 nights.

Trip profile: This is an adventurous wondering in nature with the intention to break barriers between parents and children or between a working together group of adults, by living and being active in nature. The events or activities and the places we move to in the program, form a meaningful pattern, which in few words could be expressed as: “From the river, up the mountain, down to the sea”.

Day 1. Arrival at Ambelakia and your accommodation as in the Hellenic Rafting program. A hot shower at the hotel and a good taste of traditional Greek food at the village’s square, as you meet your guides, will make you forget all about the day’s travelling and introduce you slowly but steadily in to the spirit of real Greece. A good place indeed to start off our journey in to being together in nature.

Day 2. After we have been introduced to the place’s history by visiting the cultural center and museum, we go off rafting to Pinios river, which flows deep below the village. Our rafting base is only 20’ drive from Ambelakia. The rafting route is very enjoyable with exciting rapids, rising the adrenaline and the feeling of team work very high! This excitement will last for about 2.30’ hours. A light lunch will be waiting for us at the end of the ride, before we start getting camp ready, gather wood for the camp fire, help to prepare supper, and seat around the fire, telling stories.

Day 3. Have breakfast and pick up camp. By road, we move to the northwest side of Mt. Kissavos to a high point of 1600m. Get ready, sacks on our backs and off to climb the mountain’s summit, which rises above our heads, 400m higher. It will take about 1.30’ hours of moderate walk to the summit. We enjoy moments of fulfillment and tranquility while admiring the view. The mountain of the twelve gods, Mt. Olympos, rises impressively before us to the north, the land of the mythical centaurs Mt. Pelion to the south, the Aegean sea and the coast along which Jason and the Argonauts sailed going for the golden fleece, to the east. We are standing atop the land with very strong vibrations of myths, legends and history. Drinks and light lunch on the summit. We then we descend via its southeast ridge to the valley of “Belmas” at 1350m. (1.30’ to 2.00’ hours). The valley is a very beautiful spot, with rich forests and hospitable little meadows for camping. Here we prepare camp for another night out and circle around the fire.

Day 4. Today we move on the mini bus through dense forest, down the eastern side of the mountain. Our destination is the Kalypso canyon. This canyon is a nature’s wonder. A completely different world from what we have experienced up to now. Geared up, we walk up the slope for about 20’ and get into the canyon. An amazing environment of waterfalls, crystal clear pools and dense vegetation welcome us. While in the Canyon, we continue walking and scrambling up stream for another 10’, until we reach the great waterfall, 65m high! It is indeed a unique and exceptional spot! After having a drink and cookies at the spot, we make our way down stream to start the real canyoning with a series of jumps, waterslides, dives, fly-foxing over pools and abseiling alongside waterfalls. We either camp at the end of the canyon, or go to our nearby base’s wood house for the night, fire e.t.c.

Day 5. Today we move by road down to the sea. The sea kayaks wait for us and after the briefing we start exploring the coast line, swim and snorkel at beautiful seaside spots. In the afternoon we finish at the small seaside village of Kokino Nero. We are transferred to the cozy nearby Dohos hotel, for a very well earned rest, local food, sauna or Turkish bath and complete relaxation. At the farewell meal we summarize on what we have experienced those exciting and adventurous last days.

Day 6. Back to the airport for the return journey home.
